80,000 Mitsubishi Lancers recalled

By HUB SmartCoverage Team on October 29th, 2018

The Mitsubishi Lancer recalls target 80,610 Canadian Lancer cars, including Lancers, Lancer Evolutions and Lancer Sportbacks made between model years 2008 and 2017.

The windshield wiper on certain Lancer vehicles has been found to be flawed, according to Automotive News Canada. “Water may drain from the windshield cowl area onto the front wiper link ball joint,” said the recall notice via Transport Canada.

Over time, extended periods of water flow “could result in corrosion and/or wear to the joint, which could result in the separation of the wiper link ball.” If any separation occurs “the windshield wipers could become inoperative, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain operating conditions,” according to safety representatives.

The windshield flaw and potential separation could decrease safety on the road by increasing the risk of an accident causing injury and/or property damage.

Responding dealers will change the wiper link rod in the affected Lancer with a “countermeasure one,” while also replacing the wiper motor crank arm with a new and upgraded one.

Mitsubishi does not make Lancer models anymore, though the compact sedan did receive a longer run in Canada, ceasing sales early this year. In August 2017, Lancer sales ended in the United States.

This year, car dealerships recalled a number of Chrysler and Ram vehicles, Ford recalled pickups with faulty airbags and technology company Kidde recalled 40,000 defective smoke detectors.
